Jisu Kim (b. 1991) works between Munich and Busan. She takes various relational and environmental stimuli as the parameters of her paintings and
experiments with the possibilities of expansion through their transformations. She recently exhibited “IF YOU WERE HERE” (2025, NEU WORKSHOP) and
“The Dwelling” (2026, EAREAR).

Untitled, 2025, tempera on wood, 175 × 150 × 3 cm,
photographed by Jisu KimMy work focuses on generative processes based on spatial and interpersonal relationships. The elements on each surface carry multiple meanings and functions, sometimes complementary, sometimes contradictory, and this complexity becomes the source of energy.
Much of my work begins by gathering fragments from memory, experiences, interpersonal dynamics, and archival images. These are treated not as narratives but as elements to be broken, repeated, and reassembled, gradually forming a surface or gesture. In recent works,
I form organic, folded shapes that emerge as layered structures. These layers are often overlaid with white marks that intertwine like pixels or mosaics. The marks partially obscure the images beneath, creating new visual configurations and relationships.I work primarily with tempera on wooden panels, but also with other materials such as graphite, sometimes collaborating with artists with different disciplines to expand the work’s possibilities.
